Thanks Hugo and Bart.

I think the error may be due to having below a set minimum number of posts.

One dram avoirdupois is equal to 1.77185 grams. ~1.8g.

Chris

But dwt is pennyweight not dram. 1 dwt = 1.55517384 grams.  (wiki)

One of my C7s came with a set of weights marked 1,2,4 and 8. This website http://www.hvtesla.com/masters/syncro_weights.html  says that these are marked in dwt or penny weights. A penny weight is 1.55 grams according to online conversion.
But this has led me a merry dance when regulating my homemade clock and I got suspicious. Gents weights totaling 38 of these units on my kitchen scales weigh 8 grams. Meaning, with the accuracy of the scales, 1??? weighs about .21 grams. So what can those units on the little weights be ? Or have I missed the plot completely Smile

Don's post has made me re-read the whole list and re-visit the subject..the answer was actually all there in my first post....and I had indeed missed the plot completely Smile C'pn Mainwaring would have said "quite right..I wondered who would spot that"  !
Due to my rubbish ability with mathematics I had missed a vital point..My averaging of the Gents units, from the weight of the whole lot divided by the number of Gents units (which came to .21grams) was not the whole story.  As 8 units = 1dwt, or 1.55grams,  I should have multiplied .21g by 8. Giving 1.68 grams - much closer to 1.55 grams. for the "8" weight.
Weighing all the weights individually had showed me that they are not precision weights and all tend to be over..For example the three 8dwt weights I have weigh 1.65...1.64...and 1.58..The little digital scales have proved to be quite accurate..The others smaller weights all weigh a bit over as well..
I hope that clears up any further confusion that I may have created in the first place !  Roger
